Hello!
I think usually when a foreigner goes to somewhere in China, they have to register to the police station, right.
Well, for those who rent an apartment, no pb, but if a friend comes in China to visit us, they should go to the police, no?
OK, well, up to now, i never did that (don't denounce me please... anyway you don't know who i am Cheesy!!!), but i heard that Chinese police will strengthen this regulation during the Olympics, so.... 2... no.. 3 questions:

- Has someone heard also that this obligation to register to the olive will be strengthen?

- Has someone already has some trouble because of no-registration of a foreigner?

- Is it complicated and long to register?

OK, that's it
Thanks

I've never registered a visitor. In the very unlikely event your guest is stopped just say you didn't know.

Ask Lina, she should know. I think when her friend visited her, she took her friend to the police station for registration. It shouldn't be very difficult

You just take your friend and his/her passport as well as your registration card and go to the police station. It is not complicated.

One of my friends in BJ had his mother staying at his place. He thought he did not need to register her. But already at the second day the police came and checked, so he had to register her anyway.

Maybe your landlord won't be happy with that though, because he will have to  pay tax for every registered foreigner.

wow... that's just.. ridiculous  Undecided . in my personal opinion, completely unnecessary. Are there other countries in the world that have such strict (and at the same time un-posted, non-publicized, and non-clarified) rules for non-nationals who are traveling from one place to another?

For visitors its not an issue. But for residents you gotta show that lousy police registration every time you renew your visa.
